Honor Lake

About me

My name is Honor and I’ve been learning about photography at Newsham for the past 2 years.

I had no previous experience and bought my first camera a few months into the Level One course but quickly fell in love with taking photographs and looking out for moments and scenes I’d like to capture.  Looking for nostalgia and fun at Southport and New Brighton whilst acknowledging both places had seen many changes and were nothing like as well maintained or popular as fifty years ago.

I was very interested in the work of Martin Parr and Tony Ray Jones and wanted to capture some of the humour and theatre of people having fun. Along the way I also saw and wanted to show a sense of place you cant find elsewhere.

After the seaside project I started to look at other famous photographers and fell in love with Saul Leiter's style and cityscapes.

For a while I wanted to take shots of my native city of Liverpool but to see it with fresh eyes as a warm, glamorous and universal city, filled with people and light.

Future project, I’d just like to get back to the natural world; to fields, to farmland and beauty spots with my camera and maybe a new macro lens. My next project will be photographing flowers and landscapes and I think that’s where I’d like to keep shooting and keep learning.
